Preface

First of all, I would like to thank BH4GFK. Under his guidance, I completed the first amateur radio satellite signal reception.

Secondly, I also want to record this process for future reflection and recollection.

Then, this is also my first attempt. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Preparation

Hardware

  • UVK5 handheld radio, squelch set to 0, frequency step is 2.5kHz
  • Original antenna
  • Mobile phone

Software

  • Look4Sat
  • Robot36(Android)
  • mmsstv(PC)
  • Recording software

Process

  1. The target satellite is UMKA1 (RS40S). You can find it by searching with Look4sat.

  2. I formed a right angle between the mobile phone and the radio. Aim the mobile phone at the satellite. The following is a schematic diagram.

  3. Before the satellite arrived, open the recording software on mobile phone in advance.

  4. Use the up and down keys to adjust the frequency on the radio. Since it was my first attempt, I was a little hesitant to adjust the frequency, so it would be better if I preset it.

  5. After recording all the sound signals of the satellite, use Robot36 to decode it. (The software was downloaded from the Google Store. There were some problems with the settings at the beginning, and could not decode it successfully. I struggled for a long time. Later, I changed the Audio Settings -> Channel Select and it was normal.)

  6. The first time I received it, I only received one clear picture, and the other pictures were not received successfully.
